Day 3

Juliann is doing really well. Eating is getting easier. She went on 3 short walks today up and down the halls! On the lunchtime walk, Eliza and Kelton came to visit again (wearing their "Zipper Club Support Team" shirts). I wish that I was able to get a picture of Kelton's face when he came around the corner and saw Mommy Walking!

Thanks to Juliann's mom - her hair looks very cute! Eliza & Kelton left with Juliann's parents. Thank you for taking good care of our kids!

Dr. Laks came by (he loved the shirts) to look at her last chest tube, and it was ready to come out. It was quite painful for her, but it is now a bit easier for her to breath. She is eating more and more, and trying to rest - but it's been a revolving door of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, interns, X-Ray techs, Nutritionists and house keeping etc.
The surgeon that did Juliann's incision stopped by to see how it was doing. We were able to talk with her for quite a while. Besides being raised in Russia (with lots of Ballet training) she drew us a diagram of how the surgery went. Juliann says that she is now Holy - the Dr. went through each stitched hole & told us the reason for them. They were able to keep the incision pretty small (not through the sternum). They went in-between the ribs. Only one rib was broken (now wired back together). Normally, more ribs break during this procedure.
One of the other doctors on the team who came in to do her ECHO was a Music Major (Cello, then Med School). We thought that it was fitting that a ballerina and string musician helped fix Juliann's heart!
